BENTON -- Ste. Genevieve's two high schools swept Saturday's annual Hawk Invitational hosted by Kelly.
Ste. Genevieve captured the 11-team boys division with 205 points, finishing more than 100 points ahead of runnerup Kelly, which had 99 1/2. Portageville (94 1/2), Chaffee (73 1/2) and Grandview (71) rounded out the top five.
Ste. Genevieve Valle won the 12-team girls division with 144 1/2 points. New Madrid was second with 103, followed by Charleston (98 1/2), Ste. Genevieve (92 1/2) and Kelly (87 1/2).
Chris Donze of Ste. Genevieve was the boys MVP. He won the 100 and 200 dashes along with the long jump.
Nicki Klein of Valle was the girls MVP. She also captured three events: the 100 and 300 hurdles along with the shot put.
Kelly's boys broke two school records. Michael Riley's 4:38 clocking won the 1,600 while the Hawks' 4x400 relay team of Chad Felter, Joe Livingston, Nathen King and Travis Schiwitz prevailed in 3:38.
Riley also won the 3,200 while Kelly's 4x800 relay team of Felter, King, Riley and Schiwitz prevailed as well.
Also for Kelly's boys, King won the 400 and Schiwitz captured the 800 while other area boys winners were Chaffee's Andy Proffer (high jump) and Phillip Groves (discus).
On the girls side, Kelly's Amy Arteme captured the 1,600 and 3,200 and she joined teammates April Cousins, Jenny Riley and Tabitha Shankle in winning the 4x800 relay. Shankle also won the 800.
"We had a good day," said Kelly coach Bill Davis. "It was a really good meet. Ste. Genevieve's boys and Valle's girls are loaded."
Charleston's girls got wins from Dalicia Dunnigan (100) and Siglindy Owens (200).
