State-ranked Delta girls survive with OT victory at Scott County

The Delta girls basketball team, ranked No. 2 in the state's Class 1 poll, was pushed to overtime in a 59-50 victory at Scott County Central on Friday night.

The Bobcats (24-1) have lost only to a Class 4 team this season.

They are the top seed in a two-team district with Oran, while Scott County Central is the only team in Class 1 District 1, meaning one game separates a rematch in the sectional round.

Delta outscored the Bravettes 11-2 in the extra period Friday.

Kaci Menz led Delta with 24 points, Ashley Deprow had 12 and Shea Smith 11.

Scott Central received 28 points from Brittney Peet and 14 from Lakeisha Turner.

Scott County Central raced to a 49-27 halftime lead at home against Delta.

Pershard Owens scored 21 points for the Braves. D.D. Gillespie had 18, Caleb Johnson scored 16 and Richard Brownlee added 14.

Terrence Below led Delta with 26, while Dustin Anglin had 13 and Aaron Kinder scored 12.

St. Vincent broke a nine-game losing streak and tuned up for district play by beating visiting Valle Catholic.

Eric Clements scored 15 points for the Indians (9-14), whose last win had been Jan. 13 over Crystal City.

"It felt good to finally win again," St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy said.

Ben Buchheit added 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Indians, while Waylon Richardet scored 10 points.

The Indians led 47-27 after three quarters and Valle never got closer than the final eight-point margin.
