DALLAS -- Bill Guerin scored with 1:30 left in regulation, and the Dallas Stars pulled out a 2-2 tie Wednesday night against the Blues to maintain a share of the NHL's best record.
Guerin's 23rd goal came after Mike Modano gathered a loose puck on the left side and made cross-ice pass to Sergei Zubov. He fed Guerin charging the middle for the tying goal in the battle of division leaders.
The assist was the 600th in Modano's career, allowing him to join Philadelphia's Jeremy Roenick as the only American-born players with 400 goals and 600 assists. Modano is the 44th player overall to reach that mark.
Modano scored his 21st goal of the season -- and 437th of his career -- in the second period, converting a one-timer on a pass from Guerin.
By managing a tie and gaining a point in their first game after the All-Star break, the Stars have 73 points. Dallas is 12-1-4 its last 17 games.
Both Eastern Conference division leaders, Ottawa and New Jersey, won Wednesday night, giving them 73 points each and a share of the NHL's best record.
In the overtime, Dallas played the final 3:28 a man down after Niko Kapanen got a double minor penalty for a high stick that drew blood from Barret Jackman.
Dallas All-Star goalie Marty Turco gave up two goals in seven shots in the first period, but stopped the next 17 shots -- six of them in overtime. Turco is 9-0-4 since a loss Dec. 26 at Nashville.
St. Louis goalie Brent Johnson had 27 saves.
Keith Tkachuk had a breakaway to start the extra period, but Turco made the stop. St. Louis' last chance came on Al MacInnis' hard slap shot from about 30 feet with 17 seconds left.
The Blues led 2-0 on Tkachuk's deflection, his 21st goal, with 2:12 left in the first period. A faceoff to start a power play went to Alexander Khavanov, whose shot from the blue line deflected off Tkachuk.
The Blues scored first on Dallas Drake's 13th goal, midway through the first period.
Modano scored from the top of the right circle on a five-on-three with 15:28 left in a penalty-filled second period. He scored off Guerin's pass from behind the net.
The Stars still had 1:28 left on the power play, but 41 seconds later Brenden Morrow was called for holding, the second of his three penalties in the game.
There were 11 minors called in the second period, six of them on the Blues, but Dallas came up empty on its other three power-play chances. St. Louis was 0-for-3 on the power play, and was denied a short-handed goal on a great stop by Turco.
Steve Martins had a breakaway off a Dallas turnover, but Turco sprawled for a backhanded swipe to deflect the puck, which then hit the post and was sliding toward the line before Turco was able to grab it.
St. Louis played without leading scorer Doug Weight, out seven-to-10 days because of a deep bone bruise on his left ankle after being hit by a puck in Sunday's All-Star game.
Notes: During a power play in the first period, Turco went far away from his net to stop a charging MacInnis and knocking the puck away. The goalie ended up past the blue line. ... Stars RW Claude Lemieux was back in action after missing three games with a strained neck. ... Tkachuk has seven goals the last seven games.
