Defending Class 1 state champion St. Vincent is the only local team to find a spot in the state's preseason football poll.
St. Vincent ended up third and had two first-place votes. Greenfield, a state quarterfinalist last year, had six first-place votes and ranked first in the poll, ahead of Salisbury. One of St. Vincent's district rivals, Valle Catholic of Ste. Genevieve, was ranked No. 8.
The rankings this year are compiled from votes by sportswriters at 10 newspapers from around the state, including the Southeast Missourian.
The SEMO Conference had no teams in the poll.
Joining St. Vincent and Valle from the Mississippi Area Football Conference were: North County, No. 3 in Class 4; Herculaneum, No. 1 in Class 3; and Ste. Genevieve, No. 6 in Class 3.
