STE. GENEVIEVE -- St. Vincent High's boys basketball team shot 57 percent from the field and eased past St. Pius 75-64 Tuesday night in the first round of the Ste. Genevieve Christmas Tournament.

The Indians, who improved their record to 5-1, will play Valle at 7:30 tonight. A win would vault St. Vincent into Thursday night's championship game against host Ste. Genevieve, which has already won its pool.

Ryan Prost scored 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Indians. Gabe Hotop scored 19 points while Justin Amschler added 14. Cory Strattman dished out seven assists.

"We played real well," said St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy.

Also in the tourney Tuesday, Perryville (1-5) fell to Ste. Genevieve 59-58 despite 23 points from Ryan Wichern and 22 from Michael Downen. Perryviille will play Herculaneum at 6 tonight.
