CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Red Devils may have finished the season with a 2-8 record, but they definitely went out kicking.

Playing heavy favorite St. Vincent Friday night, Chaffee took the Class 1A, District 1 champions to double overtime before falling 13-7.

"All three district games we played tremendous," said Chaffee coach Dennis Horrell. "Once again the kids tonight played outstanding."

Chaffee committed seven turnovers in the game, but the defense allowed just a 1-yard plunge by Bryan Meyer on a third-and-goal play in the second overtime.

"Our defense came up big all night long," said Horrell.

St. Vincent (8-2) scored its only points in regulation on a 22-yard interception return by Aaron Unterreiner on Chaffee's first series of the game.

The Red Devils knotted the score in the second quarter on Matt Graham's 1-yard quarterback sneak on a fourth-down play.

St. Vincent was unable to avoid overtime when a 25-yard field goal attempt failed in the closing seconds.

Both teams misfired on field goal attempts in the first overtime. Chaffee had a 42-yard attempt blocked while St. Vincent missed a 38-yard attempt.

Nick Swinford led Chaffee with 92 yards rushing on 20 attempts. The Red Devils mounted 142 yards total offense to St. Vincent's 185.
