COLUMBIA -- St. Vincent's golf team took second place in the Class 1A state golf tournament by carding a team score of 327 on Tuesday, 13 strokes better than the Indians shot on Monday.
The Indians finished 10 strokes ahead of LaPlata, but 15 strokes behind Gallatin at the Columbia Country Club.
Jon Paulus led the way for St. Vincent with a score of 153, which was good for fourth in the state. He had the best round of any golfer in the tournament, shooting a par-72 on Tuesday. Paulus finished three strokes off the top two-round score of 151.
Wes Richardet shot an 85 Tuesday for a final score of 166; Craig Schumer carded an 84 in the second round for a toal of 171 and Ryan Prost shot a 91 for a two-round score of 177.
CLASS 2A
SEDALIA -- Notre Dame shot a team score of 361 Tuesday to end up with a combined total fo 718, good for 13th in the state.
Tim Buerck led the way for the Bulldogs, shooting an 84 for a two-round total of 187 on the par-70 Sedalia Country Club. Buerck's score placed 39th in the state. Nick Martin was one stroke behind Buerck with an 84 on Tuesday for a total of 168. Lucas Klein shot an 89 for a 183 and Derek Welter rounded out the Bulldogs' scoring with a 104 on Tuesday for a total of 200.
"It was good to get there," said Notre Dame coach Chris Janet. "We were a little disappointed in our team scores. We thought we could have finished higher and probably should have, but there are some very good players at state tournament."
CLASS 4A
COLUMBIA -- Jackson's Chris Pike shot a 94 Tuesday at the par-70 A.L. Gustin Golf Course to finish with a two-day total of 187.
Rockhurst won the 4A team title with a score of 615. Mark Ditto of Joplin won the state tield with a two-round total of 149.
Poplar Bluff ended up ninth and Sikeston finished 14th.
