The St. Vincent baseball team captured the championship of the Chaffee tournament on Saturday, following a semifinal win against Puxico with a 5-0 shutout of the host Red Devils in the final. The St. Vincent baseball team captured the championship of the Chaffee tournament on Saturday, following a semifinal win against Puxico with a 5-0 shutout of the host Red Devils in the final.

Matt Hotop picked up the win for the Indians (7-8) in the final, as Chaffee (12-5) managed just five hits. Kyle Rollet and Quent Robinson each had two hits in the final.

Rollet was 4-for-4 in the semifinal win against Puxico.

Chaffee had beaten Meadow Heights 14-3 in the semifinal.

Stoutland tournament

Oran rolled into the championship of the Stoutland tournament, beating Potosi and Osage.

The Eagles will play the host team 1 p.m. today in a battle of perennial Class 1 baseball powers.

In the 5-3 win against Potosi, Alex Chasteen homered for the Eagles (14-1). Kody Campbell and Jayden Pobst had two hits apiece. Steven Dooley pitched six innings, while Pobst worked the seventh and notched the victory after the Eagles scored twice in the bottom half.

Chasteen threw a five-inning no-hitter against Osage as the Eagles romped 10-0. Tyler Beardslee had two hits.

SEMO Conference

Austin Greer singled in the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning for the Bulldogs in a 3-2, 10-inning victory against Poplar Bluff in the first-round of the SEMO Conference tournament.

The game was picked up Saturday in the third inning after rain had postponed it Friday.

Notre Dame then went on to beat Jackson later in the day in the semifinals to advance to Monday's 7:30 p.m. championship game against rival Central at Capaha Field. (See Page 1B for details.)

The host Bulldogs dominated the three-team boys competition with Saxony Lutheran and Kelly.

Mark Zimmer returned from being sidelined by an illness and had two first-place finishes — winning the 100-meter dash and the 200for the Bulldogs.

Max Wieser of Saxony was named most valuable athlete with a first-place finish in the 400, a fourth in the 800 and anchor legs in the Crusaders' first-place 3,200 and 1,600 relays.

Kelly won the girls meet, as Londyn Backfisch earned most valuable honors by placing first in four events — the 100, 200, 400 nd high jump.

The Central tennis team won two matches Saturday at the Parkway Central tournament.

David Berry, playing at No. 1 singles, won both his individual matches, and then teamed with Patrick Duffy to win two matches at No. 1 doubles.
