Baseball fans from all over the area got a chance to see some of the hometown MLB team players when the St. Louis Cardinals Caravan stopped in Cape Girardeau. The event was held at the Osage Center on Monday, Jan 15.

Members of the caravan included both current and past players: Alec Burleson, Drew Rom, Tink Hence, Sem Robberse, Xavier Scruggs and Jason Simontacchi along with Polo Ascencio who was the emcee of the event.

Fans were given the opportunity to ask the players questions, participate in raffle drawings for all kinds of Cardinals-related prizes and children in attendance received autographed baseballs and posters. Two children, 12-year-old twin boys Eli and Ethan Holder said they had a great time at the event.

“It was very cool, I really enjoyed my experience. The players were very nice and fun, just really cool guys to talk to,” Eli Holder said.

“The most fun part about today was getting to ask the players questions and getting a bunch of autographs,” Ethan Holder said.

As much fun as fans had, the players acted like they had as much fun as the folks in attendance. Everyone was all smiles as they were answering questions and signing autographs, you never would have known they had been to four cities in two days.

Alec Burleson said this event is a big deal for the players as well because they get to meet the fans who show up to watch games at Busch Stadium every year.

“Meeting fans face to face is a great experience, you can have all the support at the games or on social media, whatever it may be,” Burleson said “But just to be able to shake their hand and say thank you and hear that they have your back always, that is awesome.”
