ST. LOUIS -- St. Joseph's Academy appears poised for a run for the Class 4A state tennis championship as it ended a memorable Jackson High School season Tuesday with a 5-0 sectional victory.

Jackson had won all 13 of its dual matches during the regular season, but St. Joseph's, which finished second in the state last year, came into the match with two-time state singles champion Kiki Stastny and her impressive entourage.

Stastny, a junior, looked primed for a third title as she rolled past Jackson's Kim Anderson 6-0, 6-0; Carolyn Kramer defeated Nicole Poythress 6-2, 6-0; Mary Jane Musca topped Katie Domian 6-3, 6-1; Tara Palumbo downed Maggie Martin 6-1, 6-1; and Noell Ranall stopped Carly Vogelsang 6-2, 6-0. With the match already decided, Sarah Twedell defeated Sarah Propst 8-4.

"The scores don't show it, but my girls played well," said Jackson coach Linda Adams. "It was a really good season and a good way to end it -- against good competition. Even though we lost, it was a good match."

St. Joseph's advances to quarterfinal play where it will face the Oakville-Marquette winner for the right to go to state.

Jackson's season is not entirely over as Anderson will compete in the state singles tournament on Oct. 20-21 in Springfield.
