CAPAHAS POUND OUT 16-0 WIN IN ST. LOUIS
ST. LOUIS -- The Craftsman Union Capahas led just 1-0 after four innings but wound up routing the St. Louis Golden Spikes 16-0 in a contest stopped after seven innings by the 10-run rule.
The Capahas (8-3) had 19 hits, led by Zach Borowiak and Brad Simmons with three each. Steve Kress, Denver Stuckey and Josh Eftink had two hits apiece. Borowiak, Kress and Stuckey all homered. Simmons drove in three runs.
Ricky Pecaut needed just 63 pitches to fire a two-hit shutout. He struck out six and walked one.
Riverdogs suffer loss in Kentucky tournament
DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. -- The Cape Girardeau Riverdogs (5-7) suffered a 4-1 loss to the Memphis (Tenn.) Royals Sunday during the River King Tournament.
Brent Self pitched all seven innings, allowing six hits.
Billy Puckett was 3-for-3.
The Riverdogs will host Saline County (Ill.) Thursday.
Hartmann, Werner chosen for all-state soccer teams
Erin Hartmann and Whitney Werner, who helped Jackson High School to a school-record 14 shutouts this year, have been selected to the Class 4A all-state soccer team.
Hartmann, a senior sweeper, was chosen first team while Werner, a junior goalie, was picked second team.
The Indians also were 12th in the state rankings.

BASEBALL
The Brewers lost left fielders Geoff Jenkins and Alex Sanchez two innings apart in their 5-2 win Monday over the Astros. Jenkins dislocated his right ankle and tore ligaments in the joint lunging to get back to third base in the second inning of the Brewers' game against the Houston Astros. Team physician William Raasch said Jenkins would be out for at least two months, providing tests Tuesday don't reveal further damage.
Bill Adair, who managed the Chicago White Sox for 10 games in 1970 and was Hank Aaron's first minor league manager, died Monday. He was 89. Adair died at William F. Green State Veterans Home near Bay Minette, Ala.
Golf
Tiger Woods' victory at the U.S. Open delivered the highest overnight television ratings ever for the second of golf's Grand Slam events. Woods' riveting win by three shots over Phil Mickelson at the Bethpage Black course in Farmingdale, N.Y., was seen in more than 9 million homes, and had a record 9.3 rating and a 21 share for NBC.
Running
After breaking his own world record once already this year, Khalid Khannouchi will try to do it again at the Chicago Marathon. Khannouchi announced that he will run this fall's Chicago Marathon, where he set a world record in 1999.
Tennis
Pete Sampras received his lowest seeding in 11 years at Wimbledon, while Venus and Serena Williams were seeded 1-2 to set the stage for another all-sister Grand Slam final.
Sampras was No. 7 when the All England Club released its seedings for the tournament.
