West Virginia athletic director Ed Pastilong talked with two prospective candidates -- including Southern Illinois coach Bruce Weber -- at the Final Four about the Mountaineers' vacant basketball coaching position, according to published reports.
The Exponent-Telegram of Clarksburg reported that Tennessee Tech's Jeff Lebo met with Pastilong on Friday in Atlanta. Lebo interviewed two days earlier with Tennessee-Chattanooga.
On Saturday, Pastilong met with Weber, the Sunday Gazette-Mail reported.
Weber led the Salukis to a 28-8 record, including two victories in the NCAA tournament.
Tennis
As a flashy, shaggy-haired teen-ager, Andre Agassi became the youngest men's champion at Key Biscayne. Twelve years later, bald and businesslike, he's still the tournament's best player.
Agassi won the event for a record fifth time, beating Roger Federer 6-3, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the final of the Nasdaq-100 Open.
The 31-year-old Agassi also was the champion in 1990, 1995, 1996 and 2001. The only other player to win five titles was his wife, Steffi Graf.
"I've just always loved coming here and playing here over the years," Agassi said. "I've had some disappointing weeks here, but there have been about five special ones I'll never forget."
Motorsports
Michael Schumacher won the Brazilian Grand Prix in his new Ferrari, edging younger brother Ralf by less than a second.
Schumacher, the four-time world champion, was in front from the start in the debut of his F2002 car and ceded the lead just twice. He completed 71 laps on the 2.677-mile Interlagos circuit in 1 hour, 31 minutes, 43.663 seconds.
David Coulthard finished third.
Running
Sammy Kipketer broke his own world record for 10 kilometers, leading a 1-2-3 Kenyan sweep in winning the Crescent City Classic in New Orleans.
Kipketer quickly pulled away and finished in 27 minutes, 10 seconds. He beat the record he set a year ago in the Netherlands by eight seconds.
Kipketer won $5,000 for the victory plus $50,000 and a car for the record.
