Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey broke his left wrist when he fell off a ladder at his home and will be sidelined about four weeks. Bailey, a seven-time Eclipse Award winner as the nation's top rider, was injured while putting up storm windows Wednesday to brace his home for Hurricane Frances.
Bailey, who was riding at New York's Saratoga Race Course, took off his mounts Wednesday to travel home and evacuate his family from South Florida, which is in the path of Frances. Last year, the 47-year-old Bailey set a North American record for purse money won with more than $23.3 million. He also won a record 70 stakes races.

Seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher escaped injury Thursday after a high-speed crash during testing. Medics tended to the German after he climbed from the car, but he did not go to the track hospital for a precautionary checkup, Ferrari spokesman Luca Colajanni said.
Schumacher's Ferrari was seriously damaged in the accident, which was attributed to a problem with the back left tire. The crash occurred at the end of the main straightaway, just before the curving part of the Monza circuit in which cars reach their highest speeds.
