Right-hander Brandon McCarthy was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte and was to start Monday night's game against the Kansas City Royals.
Hernandez missed the 2003 season after having surgery to repair a partially torn rotator cuff. He is 7-2 with a 4.88 ERA in 11 starts in his first season with the White Sox, but was on the disabled list May 17 to June 2 with inflammation in his shoulder.

* Dee Brown, still on crutches after breaking his right foot at a pre-draft camp two weeks ago, announced Monday that he has withdrawn his name from the upcoming NBA draft and will return to Illinois for his senior season.
"Everything happens in life for a reason," he said.
Brown, a 6-0 guard, averaged 13.3 points and 4.5 assists per game and led the Illini with 70 steals in his junior season. He was named Big Ten player of the year and was an AP second-team All-American.
But his height, short by NBA standards, and his lack of experience playing point guard were factors working against him in the draft. He needed to show well at the pre-draft camp to convince NBA executives that he could be a possible first-round choice and his injury ended that possibility.

* U.S. Open golf champion Michael Campbell has pulled out of the upcoming French Open, organizers said Monday.
The New Zealander, who considered giving up the game a few years ago to sell golf balls, held off Tiger Woods to win the U.S. Open by two strokes Sunday.
He had been scheduled to play at the French Open, which begins Thursday in Versailles, but decided go on vacation with his family instead.
"He is going on holiday with his wife and children. We were informed of his decision (Monday) morning," tournament spokeswoman Stephanie Joyeux said in a telephone interview. "We are disappointed, but it is understandable. He has just won the U.S. Open and he is on a cloud. The tournament would have been better with him, but we understand."

* Formula One's governing body summoned seven teams using Michelin tires to a hearing this month after they pulled out of the United States Grand Prix for safety reasons.
The FIA hearing in Paris on June 29 could lead to a range of punishments -- including fines, docked points or even suspensions -- and possibly throw the F1 season into chaos with 10 races left.
Michelin provides seven of the 10 F1 teams with tires. Only six cars -- using Bridgestone tires -- started the race in Indianapolis on Sunday after 14 drivers left the track following the warmup lap. Ferrari's Michael Schumacher won, climbing from his car to a chorus of boos.
Teams from Renault, McLaren-Mercedes, Toyota, Williams-BMW, BAR-Honda, Sauber and Red Bull -- none of which raced -- were told to attend the Paris hearing.
