  • The Kansas City Press Club is asking the Kansas City Royals' management to reconsider their decision to revoke the credentials of two reporters who asked contentious questions at a news conference introducing Dayton Moore as Royals general manager.

Bob Fescoe of WHB and Rhonda Moss of KCSP, competing sports-talk radio stations in Kansas City, had their credentials taken away on Friday.

David Witty, the Royals vice president for communications and marketing, has said the credentials were withdrawn for the remainder of the season.

At the news conference Thursday, the two reporters grilled owner David Glass over his handling of the dismissal of former general manager Allard Baird.

Redick, The Associated Press Player of the Year, also was charged with unlawful use of highways for making an illegal U-turn. His driver's license was revoked for 30 days.

The 21-year-old Redick was released on $1,000 bond shortly after being taken before a Durham County magistrate. He is to appear in court July 17. The arresting officer wrote in his report that Redick had "very glassy eyes, strong odor of alcohol coming from breath."

Redick had a blood-alcohol level of 0.11 percent. The legal limit for drivers in North Carolina is 0.08.

Hockey

  • Former Montreal Canadiens coach Claude Julien was hired Tuesday as coach of the New Jersey Devils, who were forced to play much of last season with their general manager behind the bench.

Lamoriello replaced worn-out coach Larry Robinson in December with the Devils in danger of missing the playoffs.

Julien coached Montreal from January 2003 to January 2006, when he was fired. He had a 72-62-10 record and helped Montreal reach the second round of the playoffs in 2004.
