n Albert Belle tracked his ex-girlfriend with a GPS device and repeatedly threatened her, according to a police probable cause statement filed in support of stalking charges.

The 39-year-old former baseball star was arrested in Scottsdale on Thursday and charged with stalking. He made an initial court appearance late Thursday, and a judge set bail at $108,000.

Colleges

  • Oklahoma State basketball coach Eddie Sutton was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Friday after tests showed his blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit following a car crash last week.

Sutton, who is on a medical leave of absence, also was charged by Payne County prosecutors with speeding and driving left of center. In the accident last Friday, Sutton's sports utility vehicle swerved across four lanes of traffic, slammed into the back of another car, then crashed into a tree.

  • Wayne Gretzky will not face criminal charges in connection with a multimillion-dollar sports betting ring busted in New Jersey last week, and he is unlikely to be called to testify against others in the case, his lawyer said Thursday. Gretzky's wife, Janet Jones, also is unlikely to face criminal charges in the case, her lawyer said

Horse racing

  • Roy Chapman, the owner of Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones, died Friday after a long battle with emphysema. He was 79.

Chapman died at his home in the Philadelphia suburb of Doylestown, said his wife, Pat Chapman. He died of complications from the respiratory disease, which he battled for years.

* Bob Lewis, one of thoroughbred racing's most popular owners who came close to winning Triple Crowns with Silver Charm and Charismatic, died at his home in Newport Beach on Friday. He was 81.
