Scorpions rugby team kicks off season Saturday; Larry's Team, Team Pie win volleyball titles

Doctors, lawyers to play March 18 at Notre Dame

The 13th annual Doctors vs. Lawyers Basketball Showdown is scheduled for 5 p.m. March 18 at Notre Dame Regional High School's gymnasium.

Admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for those under 12. All proceeds benefit the Community Counseling Center Foundation.

A postgame party is set for 7 to 9 p.m. at Gatherings Cafe in the Marquette Tower, 338 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. Tickets are $20 and include admission to the game.

Scorpions rugby team kicks off season Saturday

The Kohlfeld Scorpions Rugby Club prepared for Saturday's season-opening game against Washington University with a scrimmage Saturday.

Scorers in the scrimmage included Joey Hann, Marc Harris, Scott Johnston, Matt Koetting and Jeremy Mabrey. First-year players Mike Jones and Cole Windler also made impressions to earn starting spots.

The team has open practices at 5:30 Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Arena Park. Those interested in playing may attend or contact Hann at semo-rugby@hotmail.com.

Larry's Team, Team Pie win volleyball titles

Larry's Team of Coulterville, Ill., won the eight-team A division of the ninth annual Osage Invitational Coed Volleyball Tournament over the weekend.

Dead Frogs of Paducah, Ky., placed second and Slam-a-lama of St. Peters, Mo., took third.

In 10-team B division, Team Pie of St. Louis placed first, followed by Hit and Miss of Centralia, Ill., and Six Pack of Scott City.

The tournament consisted of round-robin play, followed by a single-elimination tournament.
