SPRINGFIELD -- Southeast Missouri State University's baseball team ran into a potent Southwest Missouri squad Tuesday and the results were not pretty for the Indians.

Host Southwest rolled to a non-conference doubleheader sweep, winning 10-2 and 8-1.

The Bears improved to 16-7 while the Indians fell to 11-14.

"Southwest consistently hit the ball all day," said Southeast coach Mark Hogan.

The Bears had 20 hits in the two games while the Indians were limited to just 10 hits, getting five in each contest.

Southwest also turned seven double plays in the twin bill, including five in the first game.

Matt Cepicky of the Bears belted home runs in each game -- his 10th and 11th of the season -- and finished with six runs batted in.

Matt Gardner, a freshman out of Hayti, also had a big day by going 3-for-3 in each contest.

Southeast's Kyle Yount went 3-for-3 in the second game while freshman Clement Bonilla Jr. hit his second homer of the season in the nightcap. Phil Warren had two hits in the opener.

Freshman Brandon Smith, in his first collegiate start, took the loss in the opener as he allowed seven hits and four earned runs in 2 1/3 innings.

Lanson Debrock fell to 2-4 in the nightcap as he allowed eight hits and six runs in four innings.

The Indians return to Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend with a big three-game home series against Austin Peay. The squads will have a 2 p.m. doubleheader Friday and a 2 p.m. single game Saturday.

Southeast, the defending OVC Tournament champion, is in third place with a 4-2 record. Austin Peay and Murray State are tied for first at 5-1.
