The Southeast Missouri State women's basketball team continued to struggle Sunday.

Southeast lost for the seventh time in eight games, 60-53 to Alabama State in the consolation game of the Double Tree Classic in New Orleans.

The Redhawks fell to 4-7, while the Hornets improved to 2-8.

In addition to beating defending Ohio Valley Conference regular-season champion Southeast, ASU's other win was over defending OVC tournament champion Murray State.

The Redhawks played for the second straight game without senior point guard Tarina Nixon, out with a finger injury.

Southeast was led for the second straight contest by senior wing Sonya Daugherty.

Daugherty, who recently returned to full-time action after missing most of four games with a knee injury, scored a season-high 23 points and was named to the all-tournament team.

Daugherty put in 19 points during Saturday's 67-59 first-round tournament loss to Providence.

Senior forward Crysta Glenn had a double-double as she scored 11 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds.

No other Southeast player scored more than five points. The Redhawks shot just 30.5 percent from the field.

The Redhawks dug themselves an early hole, falling behind 9-0 and 15-2 as they missed 12 of their first 13 field-goal attempts.

Trailing 28-19 at halftime, Southeast started the second half with a 12-3 run to forge a 31-31 tie.

Southeast soon went ahead for the first time, which led to the lead changing hands seven more times.

The Redhawks were up 44-42 with under six minutes remaining when ASU scored five straight points to surge ahead 47-44. The Hornets never lost the lead and pulled away down the stretch.

Host Tulane captured the championship of the four-team tournament by routing Providence 68-46.

Southeast's next game is Dec. 29 at Missouri of the Big 12 Conference.
