The Southeast Missouri State soccer team fell just short of the Ohio Valley Conference regular-season championship.
Southeast entered Friday night's regular-season finale at Tennessee-Martin with a clear mission -- win and the Redhawks capture the OVC title along with hosting the conference tournament.
But, after 90 scoreless regulation minutes and a scoreless first 10-minute sudden-death overtime period, UTM's Abi Sanvee found the net just 1:11 into the second and final 10-minute sudden-death overtime to give the Skyhawks a 1-0 victory.
The Skyhawks (10-8-1, 8-2 OVC), who only needed a tie to secure their second straight OVC regular-season crown, will host the six-team league tournament beginning Thursday.
The Redhawks (8-6-3, 6-2-2) fell to third in the 11-team OVC. They can finish no higher than that but could drop to fourth.
UTM dominated Friday's match, with a 39-6 edge in shots and a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
But the Redhawks got another strong performance from senior keeper Ashton Aubuchon. She recorded 13 saves, including several impressive stops.
Southeast's women finished fourth and the men were fifth during Saturday's OVC cross country meet in Morehead, Ky. Twelve schools competed.
Eastern Kentucky repeated their championships in each division with decisive victories. The women scored 29 points while the men claimed their eighth straight title with 16 points.
