The Southeast Missouri first used its bats, then its arms to sweep the University of Tennessee-Martin in a baseball doubleheader Sunday at Capaha Field.
After banging out 13 hits, including five home runs, in a 13-4 victory in the opener, Southeast used the combined five-hit pitching of Lanson DeBrock and Augie Casson to blank the Skyhawks 6-0 in the nightcap. The games did not count in the OVC standings.
UTM (4-14) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener, but Southeast (11-4) tied the score in the bottom of the frame and added three in the second and one in the third for a 5-1 lead. After UTM pushed across a single run in the fourth, Southeast answered with six runs in the bottom half for an 11-2 lead.
Shane Allen led the offensive with two home runs and six RBIs. Darin Kinsolving, Jeremy Johnson and Zach Borowiak each added a home run. It was the second straight five-home run game for the Indians, who defeated Missouri 14-8 on Wednesday. Allen went 3-for-4 while Kinsolving was 3-for-3.
Starter Dan Huesgen (2-1) picked up the win, allowing nine hits in six innings. Ronnie Lewallen pitched the final inning for the Indians.
Skyhawk starter Jason Alford (0-2) lasted just 2 2-3 innings and suffered the loss.
In the nightcap, DeBrock (3-2) held UTM to four hits in six innings while striking out four and walking two. Casson allowed one hit in the seventh and struck out two.
UTM starter Heath Doyle (3-2), the first of three Skyhawk pitchers, took the loss.
Kinsolving led Southeast's offense with two hits, including the Indians' sixth home run of the day. He finished with three RBIs and Phil Warren knocked home two runs.
Southeast scored the only run it would need in the bottom of the first, but added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings and a single run in the sixth.
Justin Deere finished with two of UTM's five hits.
