MURRAY, Ky. - Southeast Missouri State University catcher Rex Crosnoe continued his feast on Murray State pitching with a 4-for-4, four-RBI performance in a 7-3 victory in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday which gained the Indians a split and sole possession of second place in the OVC.
Southeast (27-19, 11-6 OVC) dropped the first game 3-0 as former Cape Central High School pitcher Aaron Rider held the Indians to five hits.
Southeast collected 12 hits in winning the rubber game of the three-game series.
Crosnoe, also a Cape Central graduate, haunted the Racers all weekend. He had the game-tying and game-winning hits in Saturday's 5-4 victory in 11 innings.
He went 8-for-12 in the series with six RBI. A two-run double in the fifth inning of Sunday's second game was his 38th at Southeast and established a new school record.
Jason Swearingen (8-3) picked up the victory in the nightcap. He allowed five hits, struck out four and walked two in 5 2/3 innings. Chad Borders finished up with one-hit relief over final 1 1/3 innings.
Crosnoe staked Southeast to a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a two-out single to score Donta Harris. Crosnoe later opened the fourth inning with his eighth home run of the season for a 2-0 advantage.
Leading 2-1 in the fifth, Southeast scored five times. Tom Breuer singled in the first run while Crosnoe wrapped his two-run double. Dan Pfingsten capped the outburst with a two-run single.
Breuer, Pfingsten and Kris Blum all finished with two hits.
Adam Wilson, the first of five Murray State pitchers, suffered the loss.
Rider, a left-hander junior in his first year at Murray State, improved his record to 5-4 with the shutout victory in the opener. He struck out seven Indians and walked one.
Southeast starter Larry Rothweil suffered the loss. He allowed four hits in three innings before being replaced by Rob Wells, who pitched the final three innings.
Murray scored a run in the second and added two more in the fourth.
Southeast returns to action Wednesday at home against SIU-Carbondale. Game time is 7 p.m.
