Leah Duffe went 7 for 7 with six RBIs to lead the Southeast Missouri State softball team to a sweep over NAIA opponent Missouri Baptist in its final nonconference doubleheader of the season Wednesday at the Southeast Softball Complex.
The Redhawks (10-32) had 13 hits in a 10-5 six-inning win over MBU in Game 1 and won 13-1 in five innings in Game 2.
Duffe started the scoring for the Redhawks with a three-run homer to right-center in the first inning to put Southeast ahead 3-0 in Game 1. Savannah Carpenter walked and Haylee Krack doubled before Duffe belted her third home run of the season.
MBU tied it in the second before taking the lead on a two-run homer by Mariah Randazzo in the third.
The Redhawks used a four-run fourth to regain a 7-5 lead. Kelsey Gass and Lindsey Patterson had back-to-back RBI singles that were followed up with a two-run double from Carpenter.
Gass had another RBI single in the fifth that scored Duffe. Jamie Woodworth ended it in the sixth with a two-run home run.
Duffe went 4 for 4 with three RBIs in Game 1 and was a triple shy of the cycle. Aubrey Denno (4-8) earned the win in relief. She struck out four in five innings and did not give up a hit.
Keaira Schilling (4-14) allowed MBU one hit and struck out seven in her complete-game win in Game 2.
Schilling's only hit allowed was a bunt from MBU's Kelsey Snider. Snider stole second and scored later in the first on a throwing error by Chelsea Smith to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. Schilling retired the next 15 batters she faced.
The Southeast offense picked up where it left off in Game 1 when Carpenter and Krack hit back-to-back home runs in the first. Carpenter's blast scored Woodworth, who was hit by a pitch, and Krack's was a solo shot that gave the Redhawks a 3-1 lead.
Carpenter and Duffe extended Southeast's lead to 6-1 with three runs in the second. Carpenter hit an RBI single that scored Woodworth. Duffe hit a double that scored Krack and Carpenter.
An RBI double from Patterson made it 7-1, and the Redhawks capped the victory by scoring six runs in the fourth.
Southeast will wrap up its season this weekend when it hosts Murray State at the Southeast Softball Complex.
A doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, and the season finale will be played at 1 p.m. Sunday.
