Southeast soccer blanked by Memphis

Southeast Missouri State lost 2-0 to Memphis on Thursday night despite a career-high 12 saves by senior keeper Lindsey Pickering.

Memphis (4-3) outshot visiting Southeast (2-3) 11-1 in the first half, but the teams went to intermission in a scoreless tie. Pickering made eight saves in the first half.

The Tigers scored on goals by Melissa Savage, in the 61st minute, and Geneil Newberb, in the 70th minute.

Memphis had 23 shots for the game, while Southeast recorded six, three by Margie Schaeffler. Memphis had an 11-1 edge in corner kicks.

Southeast hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7 p.m. Sunday.

On the run

The Southeast cross country teams will compete today at the Eastern Illinois Panther Open in Charleston, Ill. The women's 5-kilometer race begins at 5:15 p.m., followed by the men's 8K.

This will be Southeast's second meet of the season, after the teams competed at Southern Indiana on Sept. 1.

Open basketball workout

The Southeast men's basketball team will open its individual skill and conditioning workout to the public today with a 4 p.m. session at the Show Me Center.
