Southeast roundup: Warren earns academic all-district honors

Southeast Missouri State distance runner Amy Warren has been named to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 7 women's track and field/cross country first team.

Warren is the first selection for Southeast's track and cross country programs since Michele Jett in 2006. Warren is also one of only four Ohio Valley Conference track and cross country athletes to make academic all-district first team this year.

Warren, who graduated last month, recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA with a double major in communication disorders and Spanish.

On the track, the native of Cincinnati finished fourth in the 10,000 meters and 11th in the 5,000 meters at this year's OVC outdoor meet. The four-time letterwinner also finished sixth in the 5,000 and ninth in the 3,000 at the OVC indoor meet.

Warren now is eligible for Academic All-American consideration.

Klocke honored again

Southeast Missouri State junior catcher Jim Klocke recently added another honor when he was named to the All Ping! honorable mention team.

Klocke previously had been named to the Louisville Slugger All-American third team while also earning Academic All-American second-team honors.

Klocke is just the second Southeast baseball player and first since 1983 to receive All-American honors in multiple seasons. He also was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American in 2007. Steve Williams was an All-American in 1982 and 1983.

Klocke is considered a strong possibility to be selected in the major league draft that began Tuesday with the first three rounds. Rounds four through 30 will be today, and the draft concludes with rounds 31 through 50 on Thursday.

Gymnasts sign three

Southeast gymnastics coach Tom Farden recently announced the addition of three signees to round out his recruiting class for next season.

The three are Sarah Brillhart from Maize, Kan.; Emma Garrett from Jacksonville, Fla.; and Angela Serafini, a St. Louis native who attended Eureka High School.

Jordan Salsberg from Gulf Port, Miss.; Taylor Westrick from Waterford, Wis.; and Margaret O'Neal from Highlands Ranch, Colo., already had signed with Southeast.

"I am extremely pleased to announce the recent commitments from these fine young women. Each of them are dedicated students and come from great families," Farden said in a release. "This class has as much potential in the classroom and gym as any class I have signed."
