A look at the news involving Southeast Missouri State athletics

The Southeast Missouri State softball team will try to get on track today with a 4 p.m. home doubleheader against Tennessee State.

The three-game Ohio Valley Conference series concludes at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Southeast (11-20, 2-8) is last in the 10-team OVC. TSU (9-21, 4-6) is tied for seventh. Only the top six finishers qualify for the conference tournament.

The Redhawks, who have dropped nine of their past 11 games, are second in the OVC with a .270 batting average and have scored the second-most runs in the league at 133.

Southeast's pitching has struggled with an OVC-worst 4.84 ERA.

The Redhawks have been without ace hurler Giana Zimmerman, who had season-ending shoulder surgery before the campaign started.

Southeast junior Nicole Troncoso is the OVC's No. 3 hitter with a .372 average.

The Southeast football team, in its second week of spring practice, will have its first live intrasquad scrimmage Saturday.

Fans are invited to attend the noon session at Houck Stadium, along with another noon scrimmage April 17.

Southeast concludes workouts with its annual spring game at noon April 24.

Tennis falls at home

The Southeast tennis team wrapped up its home schedule with a 7-0 loss to Arkansas State on Thursday.

Diana Donoslovic played the Redhawks' closest match, a 6-4, 6-4 loss at No. 5 singles.

Southeast, ninth in the 10-team OVC at 1-7, closes out its conference schedule today at Tennessee-Martin.

The Redhawks end the season over the weekend with three nonleague road matches.
