Southeast Missourian

The Southeast Missouri State men's track and field team came up six points short in its quest to win a third consecutive Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship.

The Redhawks finished with 134 points, coming in second behind Eastern Illinois' 140. The Panthers won five straight titles prior to Southeast's two-year reign and 15 since 1997.

Senior Christian Locke took first in the pole vault with a height of 5.18 meters, while Duncan Ross finished third with a 4.55.

Sophomore Jarred Pasley won the 400-meter dash in 47.86 seconds, with Jordan Barber (48.32) and Brandon Chunn (49.38) taking second and sixth, respectively. Pasley was eighth in the 200.

Barber, Chunn, Pasley and Brannon Wright won the 400 relay in 3:15.74.

Haile Wilson's time of 6.35 seconds was good for first place in the 55. Chris Martin took eighth in the 55 and was fifth in the triple jump.

Jordan Brown and Kameron Long finished second and third in the 800. Marc Maton was fifth in the 3,000.

Christopher Davis and Ross finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the heptathlon.

Jason Walker was seventh in the shot put with a season-best throw of 14.70m.

The Redhawks women team finished sixth with 56 points. Tennessee State won with 124.

Sophomore Sierra Maddox was second in the pole vault with a height of 3.60 meters while Haley Holton was fourth at 3.50.

Cheyanne Tunti and Miya Dorsey finished fifth and eighth in the 400 with times of 56.46 and 57.28, respectively. Tunti took seventh in the 200 (25.27).

Mariam Ajiroba was seventh in the 55 in 7.17.

Megan Parks ran the 800 in 2:14.35 for sixth place, and Kaitlyn Shea was ninth in the 3,000 (10:09.06).

Softball

The Redhawks dropped a pair of games on Friday before edging out a walk-off win over Valparaiso on Saturday at the Western Kentucky Tournament in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Danielle Turner provided a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh, sending Southeast to a 3-2 victory over the Crusaders on Saturday. The Redhawks dropped an 8-0 decision against Western Carolina on Friday before falling 6-3 to Ball State later in the day.

Haley Thogmartin earned the win in the circle against Valparaiso, improving to 2-3 on the season. She allowed one hit, no runs and had two strikeouts. Madeline Krumrey went five innings in a no-decision start. She scattered six hits and gave up two earned runs while striking out five and walking two.

Southeast (2-6) was only able to muster three hits in the five-inning loss to Catamounts. Mackenzie Hoelting was tagged with the pitching loss. She pitched three innings, allowed four hits and six earned runs and had three walks before being relieved by Aubrey Denno.

The Redhawks' offense struggled again, finishing with only four hits in a game they never led against the Cardinals. Thogmartin threw five innings, earning the loss in the circle. She allowed eight hits and five earned runs, struck out one and walked two.

Southeast returns to action at 11:45 a.m. today against Western Kentucky.

Gymnastics

Southeast took fourth in its quad meet against host Denver University, Iowa and Illinois-Chicago on Saturday night.

The Redhawks posted a 192.650. Denver was first with a 197.525, followed by Iowa (196.075) and Illinois-Chicago (193.000).

Sophomore and defending Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Week Alexis Brawner set a new career-high in the all-around with a 39.125.

Southeast posted a 47.450 on balance beam, led by a season-high 9.750 from Alyssa Tucker.

The Redhawks scored a 48.325 on floor with Mckenzie Jones tying a season-high 9.875.

Brawner's season-high 9.875 on vault helped the Redhawks to a 48.250 on the event, and the Redhawks closed out the meet on bars with a 48.625. Lauren Israel posted a 9.825 to lead Southeast.

The Redhawks competed at Air Force on Friday night, falling 192.650-190.425.

Israel set a career-high in the all-around with a 38.925 as well as uneven bars (9.875) and balance beam (9.900). She won both the bars and beam titles, but Air Force's Kara Witgen took the all-around title with a 38.975.

Southeast scored a 47.975 on bars and 46.625 on beam.

The Redhawks posted a 48.050 on vault, which Brawner won with a 9.825. Brawner also won the floor competition with a season-high 9.825 and Southeast scored 47.775 in the event.

The Redhawks return to Houck Field house to host conference foe Centenary at 1 p.m. Saturday.
