SOUTHEAST ROUNDUP: SEMO gymnastics team posts season high, topples Centenary

The Southeast Missouri State gymnastics team claimed at least a share of each individual event title and Alexis Brawner won her first all-around title as the Redhawks posted a season high to beat fellow Midwest Independent Conference member Centenary College on Friday night in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Brawner, a sophomore, took first in the all-around with a career-high 38.900, and Southeast defeated Centenary 193.225-190.425.

"This team has once again continued to climb," coach Kristi Ewasko said in a press release. "We had mistakes but each person had their teammate's back and really came through with strong performances. We are excited for the opportunity to immediately build on and improve from tonight by competing at Texas Woman's on Sunday. This team continues to show that they're fighters and are giving themselves every chance to score higher each meet."

The Redhawks led after each rotation. They posted a 48.425 on bars in the first rotation. Brawner and McKenna Stanley each posted a 9.775 in the event, which tied Centenary's Ashley White for the title.

Brawner's 9.675 on vault was good for the title in Southeast's second rotation. The Redhawks posted a 47.675 in the event.

Freshman McKinzie Jones won the floor, which was Southeast's third rotation, with a 9.825.

The Redhawks concluded the night on balance beam and posted a season-high 48.350. Junior Lauren Israel's season high of 9.725 gave her a tie for first.

Southeast competes in a quad meet at 1 p.m. today at Texas Woman's College in Denton, Texas. Air Force and Centenary will also compete at the meet.

Track and field

Southeast competed at the Gladstein Invitational at Indiana University over the weekend and was led by the 400-meter relay team of Brandon Chunn, Jared Pasley, Brannon Wright and Jordan Barber, which took first in the event with a time of 3 minutes, 14.55 seconds on Saturday.

Pasley placed third in the 200-meter dash in 22.10. Junior Marc Maton was the Redhawks' top individual finisher on the weekend, taking second in the 3,000-meter run on Friday. He narrowly missed breaking a school record in 8:18.18, which was just 0.74 seconds off the record.

Kameron Long came in fourth in the 600 with a new personal record of 1:20.96.

Barber PRed in the 400 with a time of 48.72, which was good for fourth. Pasley was fifth in 48.76.

Christian Locke tied for fifth in the pole vault at 4.81 meters.

The Redhawks host SIU Edwardsville in a dual meet on Friday.
