A one-out double in the second inning was the only blemish for Southeast Missouri State freshman pitcher Madeline Krumrey in the Redhawks softball team's 1-0 victory over Morehead State in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at the Southeast Softball Complex.
Krumrey did not walk or strikeout a batter on the way to her first career shutout.
Southeast scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth when Kayla Fortner singled and later scored when Lindsey Patterson reached on a two-base error.
The Redhawks collected five hits in the contest. Fortner, who is batting .413 on the season with 38 RBIs, was 2 for 2 with a walk while Meaghan Touchette, Riley Hayes and India Davis had a hit apiece.
Southeast dropped the second game of the doubleheader 3-1.
Krumrey started in the circle and went three innings, allowing three hits and two runs, only one of which was earned. She was relieved by Keaira Schilling, who pitched the remaining four innings and allowed one run on four hits.
MSU scored two in the top of the third despite hitting just one ball out of the infield. A lead-off single to right-center was followed by an error, a bunt single, a fielder's choice and a run that scored when the Redhawks attempted to throw out a runner stealing second.
The Eagles added a run in the fifth before Southeast scored its only run in the bottom of the sixth on a home run by Fortner, which was the Redhawks only hit of the game.
Tanna Seuferer got the win for MSU. She struck out four and walked four.
Southeast is now 11-22 overall and 6-11 in the Ohio Valley Conference while MSU is 17-19 overall and 8-8 in the OVC.
The Southeast track and field team brought home three titles from the Indiana State Gibson Invite, which started Thursday and wrapped up on Saturday.
Blake Carter won the long jump on Friday with a leap of 23 feet, 10 inches.
Carter also combined with Blake Smith, Alexander Anderson and Chris Martin to win the 100-meter relay in 40.78 seconds.
Martin won the triple jump event on Saturday with a distance of 48-10.
