Southeast Missouri State track and field athlete Chris Navarro was named the Ohio Valley Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week for the first week of the outdoor season.

Navarro, a junior, won the decathlon at the Alabama Relays last weekend after claiming first place in the 110-meter hurdles, high jump, javelin and shot put events.

He currently ranks first in the conference and eighth in the country in the decathlon.

Southeast competes at the Memphis Invitational in Memphis, Tenn., on Friday and Saturday.

Tennis falls

The Southeast tennis team dropped its second match in a row with a 6-1 loss to UT Martin on Wednesday in Martin, Tenn.

Southeast's lone win came from Melissa Martin in straight sets in the No. 6 singles match. Martin topped Katie McCall 6-1, 6-1.

In the No. 1 singles spot, Valeriia Kashina lost 6-7, 6-1, 6-0. Valeriia Nagovitcina was topped 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 in the No. 2 match while Annisa Warasanti fell 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 at No. 5.

Ekaterina Donetckova lost in straight sets at the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-2.

The Skyhawks won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles 8-2 and 8-1, respectively.

Southeast fell to 9-7 and 3-2 in conference with the loss while UT Martin improved to 5-8 and 2-3 in the OVC.

The Redhawks' next match is against SIU Edwardsville at noon April 5 at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
