Southeast Missourian sports editor Rachel Crader received a top 10 finish in the Associated Press Sports Editor 2013 contest in column writing.
Crader finished fifth in the under 30,000 circulation division for her five-column entry. Contestants in the national competition were judged on style, writing quality, originality and local appeal.
The entries which drew the award for Crader: "Press release more surprising than Samuel's release"; "Taking my nephew to his first Cardinals game"; "New Southeast coach Tom Matukewicz makes most of first impression"; "Otto Porter's message for kids"; and "Otto Porter stays true to form all the way to NBA".
