The Jackson boys' swim team defeated Farmington 75-67 at home on Friday, Sept. 15 in the SEMO Recreation Center. Wade Lavalle won two events and earned state consideration in the 100-yard butterfly (59.85). Jan Handke won the 200-yard IM and 100-yard freestyle and Kevin Cai won the 200-yard freestyle. Tim Deyong on the 500-yard freestyle and immediately anchored the winning 200-yard freestyle relay, which earned state consideration with a time of 1:46.03.
__Soccer: Notre Dame continues Illinois domination__
Senior Bryce Sides netted a hat trick to lead the Notre Dame boys soccer team to a 5-1 win over Anna Jonesboro at Anna, Illinois. The Bulldogs continue its unbeaten steak over Southern Illinois schools, previously prevailing over Carbondale (1-0) and Marion (4-0). Notre Dame hosts Kentucky’s McCracken High School on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
__Tennis: Saxony Lutheran competes in the Jackson Doubles Tournament__
The Saxony Lutheran girls team competed in the Jackson Doubles Tournament on Friday, Sept. 15 at the SEMO Tennis Courts. The duo of Maggie Hillin/Abby Haley went 3-1 in the first flight. Evie Caruso/Addie Thomason went 2-2, Tali Renshaw/Sydney Ernst went 1-3 and Katya Rust/Hannah Pruitt went 2-2 on the day. Saxony Lutheran hosts Farmington at SEMO on Monday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m.
__Volleyball: Woodland falls to Advance__
Woodland falls to Advance in three sets (18-25, 13-25, 13-25) on Friday, Sept. 15. Mallary Barks led the Cardinals with nine kills and added seven digs. Maddie Allen added seven kills and five digs. Libero, Carrie Long, had 10 digs. Rhodie Long dished out 23 assists and 8 digs. Woodland (8-5) travels to Dexter on Monday.
__Softball: Indians place third in Jackson Invite__
The Jackson softball team defeated Festus 6-2 on Saturday, Sept. 16, to secure third place in the Jackson Softball Invitational in Jackson. The Indians (21-3) won the game in the sixth inning with a four-run rally. Zoe Flath pitched the entire game, allowing two runs on five hits with six strikeouts, and went 2-for-3 at the place with an RBI. The win came after falling to Hillsboro 3-1, who later fell to Parkway South in the championship game.
__Kelly 22, Cape Central 1__
Macy Burger hit two doubles and four RBIs to lead the Kelly Hawks to a 22-1 three-inning blowout against Cape Central on Saturday, Sept. 16. Mady Johnson and Kayleigh Holman each drove in three runs for the Hawks. Cape Central’s only run came on a groundout by Tristen Stovall in the third inning.
__Kelly 11, Poplar Bluff 2__
Ava Legrand went 5-for-5 with three RBI to lead the Kelly Hawks to an 11-2 win over Poplar Bluff on Saturday. All five of Legrand’s hits came on singles. Macy Burger pitched five innings with only one earned run. Heaven Werkmeister went 2-for-3 to lead Poplar Bluff at the plate.
__Perryville at Windsor Tournament__
The Perryville softball team participated in the Windsor tournament this past weekend but lost all three games. The Pirates fell to Windsor 16-1, North County 13-6, and Cor Jesu 10-0.
“Very proud of this group of young ladies,” Perryville coach Jim Simpson said. “It has been a tough year, but they keep showing up with a positive attitude and are improving every game.”
Perryville (2-13) hosts Fredericktown on Monday.
