The sports department's Rachel Crader, Marty Mishow, Jeff Breer and Kevin Winters Morriss, along with former summer interns Logan Jackson and Dustin Ward, finished in the top 10 in the project reporting category for newspapers with circulations of less than 30,000 per day. The winning project was a six-week series that explored basketball recruiting from the perspective of coaches and players.

The Southeast Missourian will receive its awards at the APSE's annual convention, which will take place June 22 to 25 in Boston.
