It's been a two-year goal for Central senior Matt Deisher.
He finally accomplished it Friday.
Deisher cleared 15 feet, 7 inches to win the SEMO North Conference pole vault title and break the school record.
"My personal best has been the same for two years, but I just kept improving on the little things and finally it paid off," Deisher said.
Deisher's victory helped the Tigers claim the team championship.
He said he felt good entering Friday's competition.
"I woke up and I was feeling good. I wasn't tired and wasn't sore," he said. "The weather turned out to be just perfect -- a slight tail wind and not too hot and not too cold. And as soon as I got the pole in my hands and was on the runway, I was in a zone and nothing could take me out of it."
Deisher celebrated after clearing 15-0, but he wasn't finished. He only needed two attempts to clear 15-7.
"It's very, very exciting to see that happen as we enter into district and sectionals, and hopefully state," Central coach Matt Hale said. "We're really excited about that and we're excited about our men's team who are conference champs."
Deisher will try to build on his conference title at Saturday's Class 4 District 1 meet, which will be held at Oakville.
