While it was last week's Player of the Week Lauren Reinagel who took care of business for the Notre Dame softball team in the state championship game, throwing a perfect game to secure her team's victory, it was Reinagel's fellow senior Mallory Siebert who fueled team's semifinal win.
Siebert, who entered the final four with a .484 batting average, was 3-for-4 in the Bulldogs' 4-2 victory over Platte County, which sent them to the championship game. The senior came through with an RBI-single with the bases loaded in the sixth inning to give Reinagel an insurance run.
"She just moves the ball around," Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett said after game. "She can make contact against the best of the best. ... If you can put the ball in play and run down the line as quick as she can, you're going to wreak havoc."
The coach wasn't surprised that Siebert and her classmates performed well in the biggest games of their softball careers.
"Mallory is a big-time player and she came through today," Graviett said. "That's what you expect out of those seniors."
