In the days leading up to the Class 1 state track meet, Chaffee senior Jason Cicardi said he was ready for his high school career to be over.
"I like sports, but I'm kind of ready for it all to be over -- get out of high school and start life," Cicardi said.
Cicardi made the most of his final athletic competition.
Cicardi was a part of the Red Devils' two state championship relay teams -- the 800-meter relay and 1,600 relay. He also ran on the second-place 3,200 relay and fourth-place 400 relay.
"I wanted to win all four," Cicardi said. "The 4x8 we came up second, but we ran the best time we ever ran by a lot and we could not run any faster, so I'm not disappointed in that one. The 4x1, we also ran probably the best time we've ever had. There really wasn't much more we could do, but I'm still a little disappointed."
Chaffee coach Tyson Moyers appreciated Cicardi's versatility.
"It's very rare to have a kid that can run the sprint relays and the 4x800," Moyers said. "He does a very good job in it. He's not our fastest kid by any means, but he's not our slowest either."
Cicardi has enlisted with the U.S. Army and will report for boot camp Tuesday in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
