Southeast Missourian Player of the Week: Central's Garan Evans

Central senior guard Garan Evans scored 68 points over four games in the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament to help the Tigers to a second-place finish.

Evans, Central's only senior starter and one of two seniors on the roster, scored 58 of his points over the final three games of the tournament.

He scored a game-high 17 points in a 62-42 loss to top-seeded Charleston in the championship game.

"He shot the ball well. He was really our only guy who wanted to attack," Central coach Drew Church said after the game.

Evans stepped forward with a game-high 21 points in a 71-53 quarterfinal win over Advance, and then netted 20 points in a 70-57 semifinal win against Notre Dame.

"He's playing well," Church said. "Being one of our seniors, we need him to be a leader."

With Evans' leadership and scoring, the second-seeded Tigers put themselves in position to win their first tournament title since 1996.

"I'm just trying to do what I can do, play hard and make plays at the right time," Evans said after the semifinals.

Evans was among 10 players selected to the all-tournament team.
