Bell City junior Jasmine Johnson is the Southeast Missourian Player of the Week.
Johnson, the standout of the Cubs' volleyball team, turned in a dominating performance against Leopold in the state sectional round on Saturday at South Pemiscot High School.
Johnson executed her own game plan to perfection against the Wildcats.
"Just keep attacking them and attacking them," she said, "so they don't get the ball over and hit at us."
Johnson attacked from every rotation and spot on the court, recording a whopping 26 kills, including 13 in the first game alone, in her team's 25-18, 23-25, 25-15 victory.
"She has hang time," Leopold middle blocker Abby Landewee said. "It's definitely harder to get your timing down when someone has a lot of hang time."
Johnson was modest in her own assessment of the performance.
"I think I did pretty good in that game," a smiling Johnson said. "I mean, it could have been better."
The Cubs avenged a regular-season loss to Leopold with the win.
"Nothing was falling and Johnson -- you can't really stop her," Leopold coach Sandy Davis told the Missourian. "She's just dominant."
Johnson added another double-digit kill performance in Bell City's quarterfinal loss to Valle later in the day.
