Jackson, Cape Central, Notre Dame and Scott County Central all posted big wins to start Day 1 on Friday.

Top-seeded Jackson began its Southeast Missourian Christmas tournament title defense with a 75-15 victory over No. 16 Delta in the opening round on Friday morning at the Show Me Center.

The Bobcats were held scoreless in the first quarter and trailed 42-10 at halftime.

The Indians' reserves played the majority of the game, with the starting five exiting for good with a 2 minutes, 28 seconds left in the first quarter. Sophomore Jacob Friess and freshman Cameron Hester led Jackson with 13 and 12 points off the bench, respectively.

Delta sophomore Charlie Ledbetter finished with six points to lead the Bobcats.

Jackson will face the winner of tonight's game between No. 8 Scott City and No. 9 Oran at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Delta will face the loser of that contest at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

No. 2 Central rolled to a 73-23 win against No. 15 Chaffee in its first-round game Friday morning.

The Tigers jumped out to a 23-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 34-5 advantage at the half.

Chaffee more than doubled its first-half production in the third quarter with 12 points -- with help from three 3-pointers from Gage McMullin -- but Central extended its lead to 58-17.

McMullin finished with a team-high 11 points for the Red Devils while Al Young and Jalen Reddin finished with 16 and 11 points, respectively, to lead the Tigers.

Former Chaffee star Peyton Montgomery started and had six points for Central against the team he played for in last year's tournament.

Central will face No. 7 Advance at 6 p.m. Saturday. Chaffee will face No. 10 Meadow Heights at 10:30 a.m.

Notre Dame 86, Oak Ridge 23

Third-seeded Notre Dame cruised to an 86-23 defeat of No. 14 Oak Ridge in the first round of action on Friday morning.

The Bulldogs held a 45-15 lead at halftime and poured in 30 points in the third quarter en route to the win.

Quinn Poythress had a game-high 15 points for Notre Dame. Thirteen Bulldogs scored in the win.

Nathan Bolin led the Blue Jays with eight points.

Notre Dame will play No. 6 Woodland at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Oak Ridge will face No. 11 Bell City at noon.

Scott County Central 87, Kelly 45

The Scott County Central Braves scored at least 25 points in each of the first three quarters of its opening game against Kelly on Friday and rolled to an 87-45 win.

The No. 4 Braves held a 52-23 advantage at halftime against the No. 13 Hawks.

They added 25 points in the third quarter before scoring just nine in the final eight minutes of action with a running clock.

Javonta Daniel led four Braves that scored in double figures with 25 points. Matt Blissett finished with 21, Drake Kesler had 15 and Jeffery Porter added 14.

Dalton Huffman and Conner Dittlinger paced Kelly with nine points apiece.

SCC will face No. 5 Charleston at 9 p.m. Saturday. Kelly will face No. 12 Leopold at 4:30 p.m.
