Jackson junior Jake Byrd was the lone gold medalist for the Indians at Saturday's St. Charles West tournament.

Byrd won the 126-pound division with a technical fall over Francis Howell sophomore Tyler McGhee in 3 minutes, 44 seconds. The Indians were short seven wrestlers but wound up finishing in seventh place.

Byrd swept a home meet against Sikeston, Ste. Genevieve and Windsor on Thursday, finishing 3-0. He also finished runner-up at the Tiger Classic in December.

Byrd is looking to make another run at the state tournament, which he qualified for last year.
