The Southeast Missouri State women's soccer team went through the some of the final stages of preseason preparation by playing to a scoreless draw with Vanderbilt in an exhibition game Tuesday night in Nashville.

The Redhawks were held without a shot in the first half, finishing with six total, but put up a stern enough defensive effort to hold the Commodores off the scoreboard. The hosts managed seven shots, including three on goal.

Vanderbilt had a 14th-minute goal ruled offside.

The Commodores had six corner kicks to Southeast's five.

Kindra Lierz started the game in goal for the Redhawks but exited after a collision, making way for freshman Maddie Gleeson, who made three saves. Lierz later returned and was credited with a pair of stops.

Vanderbilt had a golden opportunity in the 71st minute when Lierz was caught out of position, but the SEMO defense cleared the shot off the goal line to preserve the shutout.

Southeast ran 18 players onto the field, including seven freshman.

Former Jackson standout Cassidi Tomsu made her collegiate debut.

Fellow freshman Esmeralda Gonzales got a start and led the team with three shots, one on goal. Gonzales, who signed out of South Hills (Texas), set the girls' national record for career goals in high school with 313.

The Redhawks officially open their season on Aug. 19 at Tennessee.
