The Southeast Missouri State women's basketball team began the three-day Wright State tournament against a hot Central Michigan University squad Sunday.

CMU remained that way, posting its third straight victory by crushing the Redhawks 100-59 in Dayton, Ohio.

Southeast fell to 2-9, while CMU improved to 5-5. The Chippewas also have beaten Mississippi and nationally ranked Purdue during their winning streak.

The Chippewas scored the first seven points and never looked back. It was 49-27 at halftime, and the Redhawks' biggest second-half deficit was 44 points.

Southeast had a season-high 31 turnovers compared to 14 for CMU. The Chippewas had a 41-8 edge in points off turnovers.

"We started the game with too many unforced turnovers," Southeast coach Ty Margenthaler said.

CMU hit 15 3-pointers in 29 attempts for a sizzling 51.7 percent. The Chippewas shot 48.6 percent from the field overall.

"Central Michigan is a really good team. When they shoot it like that they'll be hard to beat," Margenthaler said.

The Redhawks shot 32.3 percent and made 5 of 22 3-pointers for 22.7 percent. Southeast did outrebound CMU 47-41.

Junior forward Bailie Roberts and freshman guard Allyson Bradshaw from Notre Dame Regional High School both scored 11 points to lead Southeast. Bradshaw also had three steals.

Junior forward Brittany Harriel added 10 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Patricia Mack had season highs of nine points and 10 rebounds.

"Patricia gave us real good energy off the bench individually, but as a team we need to put forth a better effort," Margenthaler said.

Southeast plays host Wright State at 11 a.m. today before concluding the tournament Tuesday with a 1:30 p.m. contest against Longwood.

Setback for Taylor

Southeast redshirt freshman forward Brooke Taylor, who has not yet played in a game this year because of a knee injury, re-injured the knee during Friday's practice and there is a chance she will miss the entire season.

Taylor, from Bismarck, Mo., missed all of the 2010-11 campaign due to an iron deficiency problem.
