The Southeast Missouri State men's and women's track and field teams returned to action with multiple personal records and top five finishes on Saturday at the Illini Classic.
The men finished second out of eight teams with 124 points, while the women took fourth with a score of 80.85.
Several Redhawks set personal bests in their first meet of the new year, including junior sprinter Ayonna Cartwright, who finished first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.58 seconds.
Senior distance runner Gloria Westlake also set a personal record after finishing 9th in the 3,000-meter with a time of 10 minutes, 23 seconds. Senior Rebakah Lawson was right behind her with a 10:25.27 finish, good for 10th.
In the 60m hurdles, junior Taylor Coffeldt finished sixth with a time of 9.21 seconds.
Junior Kayla Gutierrez set a new PR in the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 8 1/4 inches for fourth place. Senior Sarah Hall finished two spots behind her with a distance of 44-10 1/4 inches.
Gutierrez also won the weight throw with distance of 61-9 3/4 inches.
On the men's side, senior Kevin Farley once again broke the school record he set back in December in the weight throw with a new mark of 69-6 1/4 inches. Farley also won the shot put with a throw of 59-11.
Senior Blake Smith finished third in the 60 m dash with a time of 6.82 seconds.
Smith took the top spot in the long jump with a distance of 24-6 1/4 inches.
Freshmen Jarred Pasley and Jordan Barber each set PRs in the 400. Pasley finished third with a time of 49.34 seconds and Barber was fourth at 50.29.
Junior Craig Munie and sophomore Marc Maton each set PRs in the 3,000. Maton finished eighth at a 8:39.55, and Maton was three seconds behind him in ninth.
Sophomore Chris Martin rounded out the Redhawks' day of PRs with a 51 feet, 1.5 inches jump in the triple jump. His personal best jump in the event earned him a first-place finish.
