The Redhawks dropped Game 1 12-3 and were shut out in Game 2 7-0.

SIUE jumped out to a big lead in Game 1 by scoring seven runs in the top of the second inning. Brittany Toney led off the inning with a homer for the Cougars and lead-off batter Haley Chambers added a grand slam later in the inning to chase Southeast starter Aubrey Denno.

Denno recorded just three outs in the contest. She allowed five hits and five earned runs.

Keaira Schilling relieved Denno and pitched the final five innings, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits and two walks.

The Cougars added a run in the third, two in the fifth and two in the sixth. Chambers finished 2 for 5 with a homer, a double and six RBIs.

Southeast scored a run in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly by Savannah Carpenter and added its final two runs in the fifth on a home run by Kayla Fortner.

The Redhawks got their only hit of Game 2 when India Davis broke up the no-hitter of SIUE pitcher Baylee Douglass with a bunt single with one out in the sixth.

Douglass struck out seven batters and walked one while lowering her ERA to 1.71.

The Cougars scored the only runs she would need with two in the top of the third. They added one more in the sixth and four in the seventh.

SIUE shortstop Alex McDavid was 3 for 4 with two RBIs while Chambers and Rebecca Gray where both 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Madeline Krumrey pitched the complete game for Southeast, allowing six earned runs on 12 hits.

The Redhawks dropped to 5-16 overall and 2-6 in the OVC with the loss while SIUE improved to 26-6 overall and 8-1 in the OVC. The Cougars are second in the conference standings behind Jacksonville State, which is 6-0 in OVC play and 22-8 overall.

The teams will meet again at 1 p.m. today at the Southeast Softball Complex.
