The Southeast Missouri State softball team ended its seven-game homestand with a sweep of Indiana State.

The Southeast Missouri State softball team ended its seven-game homestand with a bang Wednesday.

Southeast swept a nonconference doubleheader from Indiana State, 10-8 and 4-2.

The Redhawks, who went 5-2 on the homestand, improved to 14-20 while the Sycamores fell to 11-17.

Sophomore Taylor Cowan homered in both games for the Redhawks. She now has six homers this season, tied for the team lead.

Senior Nicole Troncoso also homered for Southeast. She and Cowan teamed in the nightcap to spark the sweep.

With the contest tied 2-2, Troncoso led off the sixth inning with her third home run of the season. Cowan followed with a towering shot that cleared the left-field fence and landed on Bertling Avenue.

Cowan also sparkled on the mound in the nightcap. She allowed four hits and one earned run in going the seven-inning distance. She blanked ISU over the final five frames.

Troncoso and Cowan both had two of Southeast's eight hits. Troncoso drove in three runs.

Southeast built a 7-0 lead through three innings in the opener and held off ISU.

The Redhawks had 13 hits, led by junior Shelby Stein's 3 for 3 performance.

Senior Carmen Fowler had two doubles. Troncoso and junior Renee Kertz added two hits apiece. Kertz and sophomore Kaitlin Wallace both had two RBIs.

Junior Stefanie Barnes was the winning pitcher in relief. Freshman Shea Cothren recorded the final two outs for her first collegiate save.

The Redhawks visit Tennessee-Martin today.
