The Southeast Missouri State softball team completed a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series sweep Sunday, beating host Austin Peay 6-2 in Clarksville, Tenn.
The Redhawks (19-24, 10-12), who have a season-high five-game winning streak, remained eighth in the 11-team OVC. They are just a game out of sixth place. Austin Peay (12-25, 6-15) is in ninth place.
Southeast and Austin Peay were tied 2-2 entering the sixth inning when the Redhawks scored four runs. Renee Kertz provided the game-winning hit with her third home run of the season.
The Redhawks had nine hits, led by Taylor Cowan with two. Shelby Stein had two RBIs.
Alora Marble (11-11) pitched her 17th complete game of the season and collected her second win of the series. She fired a five-hitter Sunday, striking out three and walking two.
Southeast returns to action Wednesday, visiting defending OVC regular-season champion Eastern Illinois for a 5 p.m. contest.
The third-place Panthers (22-17, 12-6) swept a doubleheader at Southeast earlier this year.
Tennis
Southeast ended its season Sunday with its fifth one-point defeat of the year, a 4-3 OVC loss at SIU Edwardsville.
The Redhawks (5-12, 2-7) compiled their most wins since 2008. Last year's squad won two matches.
Southeast tied with SIUE (7-13, 2-7) for eighth in the 10-team OVC. The top six qualified for the league tournament.
Elizabeth Nyenwe, Melissa Martin and Heather Robinson posted singles wins for Southeast. Nikole Novikova and Martin teamed for a doubles victory, but SIUE captured the decisive doubles point.
