The Southeast Missouri State soccer team stretched its undefeated streak to four games by beating visiting Lindenwood 2-0 on Friday night.
Southeast, 3-0-1 in its last four matches, improved to 3-4-2 on the season. Division II Lindenwood fell to 7-3 as the Lions had their five-game winning streak snapped.
The Redhawks got on the board early as junior Breana Beine caused a turnover by LU's defense and broke down the back line along the right side for a shot. Lindenwood keeper Bailey Tracy made the stop, but sophomore Storm French pounced on the rebound and fired it into the open net to make it 1-0 just 4 minutes, 28 seconds into the game.
It was the first goal of the season for French, a St. Vincent High School graduate. Beine, a transfer from Evansville, earned the first point of her Southeast career.
"Bre did a great job attacking with confidence all night," Southeast coach Heather Nelson said in a release. "She was constantly putting pressure on the defense, and that first goal was because of her attacking mentality and quick feet."
Southeast was foiled on several other solid opportunities before adding an insurance goal with just 5:27 remaining in the contest.
Torey Byrd scored her first goal of the season as the junior headed in a flip throw from senior Amy Ward,
The Redhawks enjoyed a 13-5 advantage in shots and took six corner kicks while yielding just two to the Lions.
Senior Ashton Aubuchon earned her second win of the season by making a save while playing in 49:42 in goal. Freshman Lauren Meyer started the second half, but was forced out due to injury after clocking 40:18 in the net and making a save.
"We grinded out this win tonight even though I didn't think we played all that well, but I feel we will be sharper on Sunday," Nelson said.
Southeast, which is 1-0-1 in OVC play after playing its first two conference matches on the road last weekend, hosts OVC opponent Jacksonville State at 1 p.m. today.
