The first collegiate goal for Southeast Missouri State freshman Lauren Kaempfe proved to be the only goal of Sunday's game as the Redhawks defeated visiting Jacksonville State 1-0 in Ohio Valley Conference soccer action at Houck Stadium.

Kaempfe, who scored 40 goals during her career at Columbia (Illinois) High School, took advantage of a misplay by the Gamecocks in the their own end in the opening five minutes of the contest.

Kaempfe scored unassisted after the ball bounced right in front of her as a JSU player's clearing attempt deflected off a teammate. After gaining possession, the Redhawks forward dribbled in and fired a shot past JSU goalkeeper Caroline Robinson, who had come out from the goal on the play.

The shot was only one of two on target the entire game for the Redhawks, who held a 9-7 advantage in shots and took the game's only four corner kicks.

Southeast sophomore goalkeeper Kindra Lierz made three saves in recording her 13th career shutout.

"I couldn't be happier with our overall effort for this whole weekend, and to come out with four points against two quality opponents is a huge credit to our team and how focused they are at this point in the season," Southeast coach Heather Nelson said in a news release.

Southeast returns to action at 6 p.m. Thursday when it travels to Morehead, Kentucky, to face Morehead State in conference play.
