Southeast Missouri State right-handed pitcher Clay Chandler picked up Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week honors and was named one of Louisville Slugger's National Players of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper after throwing a complete-game shutout in a 4-0 win vs. SIU Edwardsville on Saturday.
The junior transfer allowed just four hits in the victory and improved to 4-0 on the season. He recorded 11 strikeouts and only issued one walk.
Chandler's 1.61 ERA is second in the OVC behind Redhawks' senior lefty Joey Lucchesi (1.29).
Hitters are batting .162 vs. Chandler and he allows an average of 5.19 hits per game, both of which are best in the conference. He ranks fifth nationally with a WHIP of .72.
It's the third time in Chandler's first season at Southeast that he's earned the OVC weekly honor and second time he's garnered national recognition from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
The Redhawks have now had the OVC Pitcher of the Week five of the seven weeks this season.
Southeast takes a 10-game winning streak into today's 6 p.m. game against Arkansas State at Capaha Field.
The two-time defending OVC champion Redhawks, who are 20-8 and 12-0 in conference, face Austin Peay in a three-game road conference series this weekend.
