Southeast Missouri State football player Tyler McLemore has been charged with first-degree felony attempted burglary and misdemeanor marijuana possession stemming from an incident on March 22.

Cape Girardeau police officers responded to a call at 7:15 p.m. on March 22, according to the police report, where three individuals had allegedly entered a residence on North Middle Street in Cape Girardeau.

"The occupants were home when it happened and are alleging McLemore and two other subjects tried to force their way in," Sgt. Adam Glueck of the Cape Girardeau Police Department said.

The individuals were no longer present when police arrived, but the residents offered a description of the vehicle, which the police located, making arrests at 7:33 p.m.

Along with the 20-year-old McLemore, charges have been filed against Levonte Hobbs, a 19-year-old student at Southeast who is from Alton, Illinois, where McLemore went to high school.

Both McLemore and Hobbs were transferred to county jail, where they posted bond and were released the same day.

The third individual -- also a Southeast football player, according to police -- was released without charges. His name was not made public by police.

The university was apprised of the arrests.

The Redhawks began spring practice on March 21.

A misdemeanor possession charge applies to possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana.

Currently a sophomore wide receiver, McLemore (6-foot-1, 209 pounds) started the final six games of the 2015 season, finishing with seven catches for 76 yards and one touchdown. As a redshirt freshman he appeared in three games for the Redhawks.

He came to Southeast from Alton High School.
